Why Permanent Makeup Is Always Done in Two Sessions — and Why That’s a Good Thing

In my practice, I always explain to clients: permanent makeup is a process, not a one-time procedure. The first session is where we create the foundation. It’s our opportunity to:
• build the shape,
• gently introduce pigment,
• and observe how your skin responds during the healing process and how it retains the pigment.
This first appointment is not about perfection — it’s about creating a strong and stable base. At this stage, achieving your final desired color isn’t the goal just yet — because I work very precisely and conservatively to protect your skin and ensure the best long-term results.
Once I see the healing outcome, I customize the second session: adjusting the tone (whether more pink, red, or brown), strengthening the color, and refining the shape. This is when we truly bring the look together.
What’s also important is that this two-step approach allows for mutual confidence.I learn how your skin reacts and what it needs — and you become more familiar with the healing process and what to expect. This comfort and trust between artist and client makes the second session smoother and more effective.
You might ask:
What happens if I skip the second session?
Some clients choose not to return — they love the soft look after just one treatment. But it’s important to understand: without the second layer, results will fade faster.
To achieve optimal color intensity and long-term retention, I strongly recommend completing both sessions.
In some cases — such as when we’re working over old tattoos or correcting dark-toned lips — a third session may be needed. But this decision is always made after I see how your skin heals.I prefer to build color gradually, especially when neutralizing or correcting, because the skin responds best to layering — not trauma.
And whether it’s your first or second visit, the time and precision I give each session are the same. The goal is always the same: natural, long-lasting results tailored to you.
Permanent makeup is not just one appointment — it’s a thoughtful, layered process. And when done right, the results speak for themselves.
Some artists include the cost of both sessions — the initial and the touch-up — in one upfront price. Others, like myself, separate them.
Here’s why I do it this way:
I only charge for the second session if it’s needed — and even then, it’s a small fee. Not for the work itself, but simply to cover the time and materials (yes, even things like setting up a clean treatment bed just for you).
Because I treat every client individually, I prefer a flexible and transparent approach.
• If your skin healed beautifully and there’s no need for a second session — you don’t pay for one.
• If you do return for a touch-up, the cost is minimal and based only on the essentials.
For me, it’s not about packages or fixed prices. It’s about giving you exactly what you need — no more, no less — with full attention to detail, care, and honesty.
